23-Year-Old Cornelius Lee Evans Dies After Shooting in Birmingham’s Kingston Community

Authorities have confirmed the death of a 23-year-old man who was critically injured in a shooting at a public housing complex in Birmingham Thursday night.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Cornelius Lee Evans, 23.

According to officials, officers with the Birmingham Police Department and Birmingham Fire and Rescue crews responded to reports of gunfire around 8:50 p.m. in the 4600 block of Roscoe Avenue. The location is part of the Rev. Dr. Morrell Todd Homes, a public housing community in Birmingham’s Kingston neighborhood.

When emergency responders arrived, they found Evans suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported hearing numerous gunshots in the area before authorities were called. First responders quickly provided medical assistance at the scene before transporting Evans to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Despite lifesaving efforts by medical staff, Evans later died from his injuries, according to the coroner’s office.

Investigators have not yet released information about a potential suspect or what may have led to the shooting. Police say the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under active investigation.
