Authorities in Alberta are asking the public for help identifying a driver believed to be involved in a fatal crash that claimed the life of a semi-truck driver last month.
According to the Alberta RCMP, the collision happened on February 18, 2026, between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Highway 49 just south of Highway 676 in the Municipal District of Smoky River near McLennan.
Investigators say a pickup truck attempted to pass a semi-truck and moved directly into the path of another semi that was hauling a tanker filled with petroleum. In an attempt to avoid a head-on collision, the tanker truck driver swerved suddenly. The maneuver caused the truck to leave the roadway and roll into the northbound ditch.
Emergency crews responded to the crash scene, but the semi driver later died from injuries sustained in the incident. The pickup truck believed to be involved did not stop and left the area.
Police have described the vehicle as a newer model black Ford F-150 with black rims, silver trim accents, and a black soft roll-up cover over the truck bed.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have dashcam footage from the area during that time to come forward with information that could help investigators identify the driver.
Anyone with details about the incident is asked to contact RCMP at 310-RCMP (7267). Those who wish to remain anonymous can reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
Meanwhile, a fundraising effort has been launched to support the victim’s family. The driver, identified as Raymond, is survived by his wife, Jenn, and their daughter, Raelynn, who are now coping with the sudden loss.
