Motorcyclist Leo Martinez Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Lubbock
A motorcyclist has been identified after dying in a hit-and-run crash Friday evening in Lubbock.
Authorities say Leo Martinez popularly known as Lito, of La Feria, was the victim of the collision that occurred near the intersection of 42nd Street and Memphis Avenue.
According to investigators, emergency crews were called to the scene around 5:55 p.m. following reports of a crash involving injuries. When first responders arrived, they found the motorcyclist suffering from critical injuries.
Despite lifesaving efforts, Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene, officials confirmed.
Preliminary information indicates that a blue vehicle struck the motorcycle and then fled the area, leaving the rider seriously injured. Police believe the vehicle involved in the crash left the scene immediately after the collision.
Officers closed traffic in the surrounding area as they began processing the crash site and gathering evidence. As of approximately 6:30 p.m., traffic remained blocked while investigators examined the scene.
The Lubbock Police Department is actively working to locate the vehicle involved and determine the circumstances that led to the deadly crash.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have information about a blue vehicle seen in the area at the time to contact local law enforcement.
Officials say the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to search for the driver responsible.
