Indianapolis Mother Seeks Answers After Third Son Killed by Gun Violence

An Indianapolis mother is mourning the loss of her third son to gun violence after authorities found 22-year-old Gregory Clifton shot to death on the city’s east side.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded Thursday afternoon to the 3600 block of Decamp Drive in Indianapolis after the victim’s mother located the family’s black Jeep and called 911.

Police arrived shortly before 4:05 p.m. and discovered Clifton inside the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Clifton’s mother, Tasha Morris, said her son had been missing for three days before she found the vehicle herself while searching the area.

His death adds to a series of devastating losses for the family. Morris previously lost 18-year-old Anthony Morris, who was shot and killed in 2016 following a dispute. In 2020, another son, Demiris Kerr Jr., died after being shot and later dropped off at a hospital.

The family also lost 10-year-old Deshaun Swanson, Morris’s nephew, who was killed in a drive-by shooting in 2015.

Community leaders, including Charles Harrison of the Ten Point Coalition, are urging anyone with information to come forward.

Detectives say the investigation into Clifton’s death remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the IMPD Homicide Office or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana.
