Man Found Dead After Month-Long Search Near Monongahela River

A man who had been missing for over a month has been found deceased near the Monongahela River in Washington County, authorities confirmed.

According to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner, the body of 26-year-old Shelby Rhodes was discovered near the riverbed along Bunola River Road in Forward Township.

Rhodes had been reported missing after he was last seen on the morning of February 6 near the Mon River. In the weeks that followed, an extensive search effort was launched involving multiple agencies. Search crews utilized divers, K-9 units, and drones as they worked tirelessly to locate him.

Despite those efforts, the search came to a tragic end when his body was recovered more than a month later.

At this time, officials say the cause and manner of Rhodes’ death remain unknown. The medical examiner’s office is continuing its investigation to determine exactly what happened.

The discovery has brought a somber conclusion to a case that had drawn concern from the community, as family, friends, and volunteers held onto hope during the search.

Authorities have not released additional details as the investigation remains ongoing.
