Police are investigating after a man was found shot to death inside a vehicle Thursday afternoon on the east side of Indianapolis.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers and medics were called to the 3600 block of Decamp Drive shortly before 4:05 p.m. following a report of a death investigation and a person shot. Family members later identified the victim as Billy, though authorities have not yet publicly released his full identity.
When authorities arrived, they discovered a man inside a black Jeep parked along the street suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
The incident occurred in the North Eastwood housing addition, located southwest of the intersection of East 38th Street and North Post Road.
Investigators initially said they were still working to determine the exact cause and manner of death, and it was not immediately clear whether the shooting was a homicide or a suicide.
Crime scene investigators processed the area for evidence while family members gathered nearby as police continued their investigation.
Authorities have not announced any suspects or arrests, and few details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting have been released.
Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional information will be shared once it becomes available.
