Nikki Marie Dodge and her 16-year-old daughter, Kyli Dodge, Found Dead in Vehicle at Maplewood Mobile Home Park

Authorities in Kent County are investigating the deaths of a mother and her teenage daughter who were found unresponsive inside a vehicle Tuesday afternoon.

The victims have been identified as Nikki Marie Dodge, 38, and her 16-year-old daughter, Kyli Dodge.

Discovery at Mobile Home Park

According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the Maplewood Mobile Home Park around 2:30 p.m. after receiving reports of two unresponsive individuals inside a vehicle parked in a community lot.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Possible Carbon Monoxide Exposure

Preliminary findings suggest the deaths may have been caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. Investigators noted that the vehicle had a strong smell of exhaust fumes.

Officials also reported that the car’s exhaust system and floorboards were in poor condition, which may have allowed dangerous fumes to enter the vehicle.

Living Conditions Under Review

Authorities believe the mother and daughter had been temporarily sleeping in the vehicle due to conditions at their residence within the mobile home park.

At this time, investigators say there is no indication of foul play.

Investigation Ongoing

The Kent County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct autopsies to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is urged to contact the sheriff’s office.
