Authorities are investigating a deadly early morning shooting that left one person dead and another injured on Monday, March 23, 2026.
According to the Independence County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to the scene around 3:20 a.m. on Brown Lane, where they discovered one victim deceased.
Officials say a second victim had already been transported to a local hospital by family members prior to law enforcement’s arrival. The condition of that individual has not yet been publicly disclosed.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities have identified a person of interest as Christopher L. Johnston (born 1978). Investigators say he was last seen in the 1600 block of Bethesda Road, and efforts are currently underway to locate him.
