Deadly Shooting at Opelika Apartment Complex Leaves One Woman Dead, Suspect Arrested
A tragic shooting in Opelika has left one woman dead and a suspect in custody following a heavy police response Wednesday morning.
According to the Opelika Police Department, officers were called around 10:56 a.m. to reports of an active shooter at the Arbor Place Apartments on Fox Run Parkway. When they arrived, they discovered a woman inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim has been identified as Alisa Shaquita Andrell Patton, 38. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect, Marc John Love, 27, was quickly apprehended near the scene with assistance from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. He has since been charged with murder.
As a precaution during the incident, several schools within Opelika City Schools were temporarily placed on lockdown. Officials later lifted the lockdown once the suspect was secured.
The area experienced a significant law enforcement presence as investigators processed the scene and began gathering evidence. Authorities say the motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.
Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as detectives continue working to determine what led to this tragic incident.
