Dearborn Heights Man Identified as Suspect in Truck Attack at Temple Israel

Authorities have identified the suspect in a truck attack at a synagogue in West Bloomfield as Ayman Ghazali, a man from Dearborn Heights.

According to sources, Ghazali allegedly drove a truck through the entrance of Temple Israel, triggering a major emergency response Thursday. During the incident, gunshots were fired as security personnel confronted the suspect.

Authorities said the suspect was later found dead inside the truck. Officials have not yet released further details about the circumstances surrounding his death.

The crash caused a fire inside the building, prompting firefighters and emergency responders to rush to the scene. A bomb squad was also called in to secure the area and ensure there were no additional threats.

Despite the alarming situation, officials confirmed that no children or staff were harmed. Temple Israel later stated that all 140 students at the Susan and Harold Loss Early Childhood Center, along with teachers, staff members, and security personnel, were accounted for and safe.

One security guard sustained injuries during the incident, though authorities have not released details regarding the extent of those injuries.

Sources also indicated that the suspect had recently lost family members in an airstrike in the Middle East, though investigators have not confirmed whether that was connected to the attack.

Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the incident, and additional information is expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
