Quadruple-Amputee Cornhole Player Charged in Fatal Maryland Shooting

A professional cornhole player is facing multiple murder charges after authorities say he shot and killed a man during an argument in La Plata over the weekend.

Shooting During Argument Inside Vehicle

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Dayton James Webber is accused of fatally shooting a passenger while the two were inside a car Sunday night. Officers responded and identified the victim as Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, of Waldorf. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say two witnesses, who were seated in the back, told police that Webber shot the front-seat passenger during an argument while driving near La Plata Road and Radio Station Road.

Victim Found in Yard

Following the shooting, authorities allege Webber stopped the vehicle and asked the witnesses to help remove the victim from the car. The witnesses refused and left the scene.

Roughly two hours later, a resident in Charlotte Hall called 911 after discovering a body in a yard along Newport Church Road.

Suspect Located in Virginia

Authorities say Webber fled with the victim still in the vehicle. His car was later located in Charlottesville, where he was found at a hospital seeking treatment for an undisclosed medical issue.

He was taken into custody by the Albemarle County Police Department after being released from the hospital.

Charges and Extradition

Webber is currently being held as a fugitive and is awaiting extradition back to Maryland. He is expected to face:

  • First-degree murder
  • Second-degree murder
  • Additional related charges

Background

Webber is known in sports circles as a professional cornhole player. He is also a quadruple amputee, having lost all four limbs due to a severe bacterial infection as an infant. Despite that, he built a career competing at a high level and gained national attention for his athletic achievements.

Investigation Ongoing

Officials say the case remains under active investigation as detectives continue to gather evidence and determine the full circumstances leading up to the deadly shooting.
