Tyrone Biggs Found Dead at Rouses Point Motel; Suspect Charged with Murder
A man is dead and another is in custody following an early morning homicide in Rouses Point, New York.
According to authorities, New York State Police responded around 2 a.m. Saturday to the Anchorage Motel on Lake Street after receiving reports of an unresponsive male. Upon arrival, officers discovered 57-year-old Tyrone Biggs deceased inside his apartment.
Investigators later identified 31-year-old Austin Lapier, also of Rouses Point, as the suspect. Police allege that Lapier killed Biggs during the previous evening.
Lapier, who resided at the same motel, was taken into custody with assistance from the Northern Regional Special Response Team. He was transported to the Champlain barracks for questioning and has since been charged with second-degree murder and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Authorities said Lapier was arraigned in the Town of Mooers and remanded to the Clinton County Jail without bail.
An autopsy is scheduled for March 29 at Glens Falls Hospital to determine the official cause and manner of Biggs’ death.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being handled by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, with assistance from the Clinton County District Attorney’s Office. Officials say more details will be released as they become available.
