A Belmont County motorcycle crash has turned deadly after a Martins Ferry man died from injuries he suffered days earlier in the accident, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred on May 16 along State Route 7 near milepost 15 in Pultney Township. Investigators reported that a 2016 Victory motorcycle, operated by 50-year-old Ronald Shaw, was traveling northbound when the rear tire suddenly blew out, causing the motorcycle to overturn.
Ronald Shaw and his passenger, 40-year-old Melinda Shaw, both suffered serious injuries in the crash. Emergency crews transported the pair by STAT MedEvac helicopter to UPMC Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that Ronald Shaw later succumbed to his injuries on May 20.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol also stated that neither Ronald nor Melinda Shaw was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The tragic incident remains under investigation as officials continue working to determine all factors surrounding the crash.
