  • Suspect Identified in Deadly Shooting at Texarkana Aluminum Plant

Authorities have released new details following Tuesday morning’s deadly shooting at Texarkana Aluminum in Nash, Texas.

Police say 48-year-old Eddie Ray Hill Jr. was shot and killed after reportedly trying to intervene in a domestic dispute involving coworkers at the plant.

Investigators say the suspected shooter, identified as 40-year-old Wendell Lane Champion Jr. of Hope, Arkansas, then shot and seriously wounded his wife, Candis Jolene Champion, before taking his own life.

The shooting happened in the parking lot of the manufacturing facility on Alumax Road and prompted a major law enforcement response.

Officials also confirmed that Champion had previously been convicted in connection with the 2007 killing of a security guard during a robbery and had recently been released on parole.

Texarkana Aluminum says it has established a crisis response team and is working closely with Nash Police and other law enforcement agencies as the investigation continues.

Prayers for all families and coworkers affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.
