Woman and Son Identified After Officer-Involved Shooting at Gulfport Apartment Complex
An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting at an apartment complex on Three Rivers Road in Gulfport left two people injured Friday.
According to officials, officers with the Gulfport Police Department responded to reports of an individual armed with a weapon in the area. Authorities said officers located the subject and attempted to detain him at the scene.
Investigators say the situation escalated when the subject allegedly resisted officers, fled, and tackled another armed individual during the encounter. Both an officer and the armed individual discharged their firearms, striking two people.
The injured victims have been identified as Michele Kelly-Rogers and her son. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not yet released details regarding their conditions.
No officers were seriously injured during the incident.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation and is currently gathering evidence and reviewing the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Once completed, the findings will be turned over to the attorney general’s office for review.
